Integrative Therapy: What and Why

When I was 17, I died, 3 times.

In psychological research, it is fundamentally accepted that near death experiences change a person, and this is the truth. These experiences never die down into the same kind of past memory as all the others, they stay vibrant and present as if you could experience the whole thing again right now just by bringing it into your awareness. The fear of death is gone and the understanding that we are infinite resounds. This resounding feeling never leaves.

Prior to death, I was young and wild. But after death, I woke up; and everything was changed.

That is when I began my journey into the truth of our existence, and my passion to help humanity was born. I had chosen to return from death because I had a purpose for life, and that purpose was and still is to help people see; to see the inherent peace and power they possess, to be happy and at peace no matter what, to guide people home to their innermost selves and to understand that they are limitless and worthy, simply verifiable by their own existence.

I spent the next 25 years learning how to translate this truth to others. I studied at depth; Herbal Medicine, Ayurvedic medical science, Psychology, Neuro science and Neuro Linguistics, Spirituality, Religion, Body language, Quantum Physics and energy, Hypnosis, Life Coaching, in fact I didn’t and still haven’t stopped learning about the holistic nature of human beings and how we use our bodies and minds to create our own reality.

This search was as much personal as it was altruistic, I was learning about the nature of I for my own understanding and for the understanding of all.

WHAT IS INTEGRATIVE THERAPY?

Integrative Therapy is a blend of all this knowledge and wisdom.

It begins with the inherent ability I have to see into the core of my clients, to see the most loving and peaceful part of everyone.

Then, using the knowledge and experience gained, I gently guide them there in whatever way is the least resistant to them.

This flexibility and knowledge enables me to give my clients a feeling of being seen like they might never have experienced before, without judgement, because I know they are an infinite being at the centre of all their struggles, and these struggles are merely a path for them to return home to that.

Everything I have studied, all the skills and strategies I have, all come together for the simple purpose of getting my clients back home to that inner most peace and power.

TRADITIONAL TALK THERAPY VS INTEGRATIVE THERAPY

Each person is entirely individual. An individual blend of DNA, cells, nature and nurture, having had an entirely individual life experience up to this point. Having an individual perception and understanding of the world, and an individual way of processing their life experiences. Individual needs, desires, feelings, wants and drives.

Comprehensive approaches to the struggles of an individual therefore, in my experience, are limited in their successes.

There is benefit in traditional talk therapy and psychology, certainly if you find a flexible therapist who can adapt well to your ever changing needs during the therapeutic process.

But I found over the years that these approaches have limitation in that they are not designed to empower you to freedom. They are often long and drawn out processes whereby the end may never seem to arrive and lasting change and empowerment in your daily life moving forward seems unattainable.

The mind, as and of itself, is only capable of past thought. Every thought and feeling you have is a reconstruction of past events, even when we project into the future, we are basing this on our experience of past events. I therefore felt that either entertaining that past constructive nature of the mind, or bringing that construction continuously to the present reality wasn’t helping clients move forward.

Life coaching is also a truly wonderful approach, but again, it has it’s limitations.

Life coaching is forward based, but with many life coaches today not having the training or understanding to handle the trauma that has been imprinted into a persons reality from past events, nor the skill to navigate through that with their clients, I felt this field was left incomplete.

By blending all the therapeutic approaches, and bringing skill and experience to these approaches, we can bring the past forward, collect ourselves in the present, and reshape our future.

WHAT ARE YOU WANTING TO GET FROM THERAPY?

I understand, from the thousands of clients I’ve worked with, and generally people I’ve spoken to, that we all share the same desire for growth, happiness, prosperity and peace.

When I ask my clients what they are looking for from their therapeutic journey, they all respond with something that falls into this generalisation; something like

“I just want to feel better” or

“I don’t want to feel anxious anymore” or

“I want to get back to myself/how I was before (this problem) started”.

We no longer want to be a victim of our past traumas or past selves, or indeed past events or limitations we have put on ourselves.

We want to feel the freedom of now, of being who we want to be and doing what we want to do now. And we don’t want that to take 10 years to get to either! We want to start feeling better now!

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM INTEGRATIVE THERAPY

Life and your journey to where you are today, be that struggling with anxiety, chronic pain, depression, PTSD, self-sabotage, negative self-beliefs, or any of the plethora of difficulties we get ourselves stuck in, didn’t happen overnight.

It took time for you to get to the point where you said to yourself;

“I’ve had enough, there must be a better way”

and it probably took even more time for you to start looking for help and a way out.

So honestly, you do need to give yourself some time to recover from this struggle.

But here’s the beauty of healing.

It doesn’t take anywhere near as long and arduous trudge to get out of your difficulties as it took you to get into them!

Your body and mind want to heal. They want you to feel good and to experience the best that your life has to offer you. If you put in the work and take the small and seemingly underwhelming steps that integrative therapy will map out for you, you will get to your destination sooner than you think!

Life really is like using a map. If you have no destination in mind, and if you don’t look at the map to find and plan a route to that (unknown) destination, you are going to get lost. You are just wondering around hoping to eventually get to somewhere!

As an integrative therapist, all I really do is pull out that map with you, decide on a destination, help you plan out a course to this destination, and give you a compass to find your way.

HOW YOU CAN EXPECT TO FEEL

Better.

I have not one client who doesn’t feel better after our first session.

They feel like they can instantly trust and tell me anything, they feel seen, heard and understood, they feel liberated from their self-imposed prison of struggle.

They feel like they see their life in a new light. They experience new hope for themselves and for their future. They feel aligned and empowered.

As we move forward on our journey together they experience less internal conflict and more self-love, self-acceptance, self-trust, self-belief. Less negative behaviour patterns and more empowering decisive action.

Less apathy, more growth.

Less anger, more peace and acceptance.

Less guilt, shame and blame, more understanding, love and peace.

This leads them to more life success, more happiness, more moments of joy and gratitude. More life! However they decide to live it and whatever they decide to do with it, they feel they can, rather than they cant.

They simply feel, better.
